Bicycle Safety Enforcement

September 17, 2009 11:11 AM

To enhance safety at key intersections around the University Park campus, the USC Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) are collaborating to step up enforcement of bicycle laws.

The program is a response to chronic violations of traffic laws by bicyclists, including biking against the flow of traffic, not stopping at stop signs and riding (rather than walking) bikes in crosswalks.

To help educate students about bicycle-safety laws, DPS handed out fliers the week of September 6. LAPD officers plan to patrol and monitor bicycle safety around the campus, and will issue tickets to violators.
